Traditional chemical or enzyme-based cleaning agents often work effectively at first, but their effect is typically short-lived — usually lasting only a few hours. Many disinfectant products claim to “kill 99.9% of bacteria,” but such effects generally target the moment of application and do not provide lasting protection. In addition, these products eliminate both harmful and beneficial bacteria, disrupting the natural microbial balance. The remaining bacteria can multiply again quickly, and frequent use of biocides may even contribute to resistance in some strains. Chemical cleaners can also damage surfaces over time (e.g., corrosion, coating damage) and may cause irritation in sensitive individuals.
Probiotic-based cleaning offers a different approach. The beneficial bacteria in Biomatra® products penetrate deep into the micropores of surfaces where dirt and pathogens accumulate. Once applied, they continue to work for several days — typically 5–7 days — thanks to the natural probiotic film they create.
How probiotics work

Bacteria require nutrients, moisture, the right temperature, and pH to thrive.

When nutrients are lacking, they form spores. In Biomatra® products, the probiotics are included in spore form, ensuring stability.

Once applied, spores activate and begin feeding on organic compounds such as residues from human or animal activity, sweat, fats, and other organic deposits.

By competing for food, they limit the growth of harmful bacteria and mites, gradually becoming dominant on treated surfaces.
Impact on allergens and odours

House dust mites are a major source of indoor allergens. Their excrement contains a protein called DerP1, known to trigger reactions such as rhinitis, asthma, or dermatitis in sensitive individuals.

Probiotic bacteria break down organic matter like DerP1 as part of their natural digestion, helping to reduce allergen load in the environment.

During their life cycle (around six days), the bacteria secrete enzymes that degrade odour-causing molecules from sweat, pets, moisture, smoke, and more.
